A round table “Historical Memory: Genocide of the Belarusian People” was held at the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus

On December 7, 2021, a round table “Historical Memory: Genocide of the Belarusian People” was held at the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. The archival industry of the Republic of Belarus was represented by Viktor Kurash, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus. He took part in the opening of the exhibition of documents prepared by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus about the crimes committed by the Nazis and their accomplices against the civilian population of occupied Belarus during the Great Patriotic War. The deputies were shown numerous documentary evidence of the crimes — acts of the Extraordinary State Commission, court and investigative cases on war criminals, captured documents, registration cards for Belarusians taken out for forced labour, etc. M. A. Starostenko, head of the department of information and documents use at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, told the audience in detail about the composition of documents and their features.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives V. P. Andreichenko addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. He drew attention to the fact that active attempts are presently made to revise the results of

World War II and the Great Patriotic War, as well as a massive attack on the national history of Belarus of the period 1941-1944, and today the task is to preserve the historical memory of those tragic events.

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus A. I. Shved spoke in detail about the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office into the criminal case of the genocide of the Belarusians in the Great Patriotic War and the postwar period.

The Head of the Publications Department at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, PhD S. V. Kulinok, made a presentation on the topic “The concealment by Nazi criminals and their accomplices of the traces of mass extermination of the civilian population in the occupied territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War”.

The Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, L. S. Ananich, told about the preparation of the draft law on the genocide of the Belarusian population during the Great Patriotic War.
