Heads of the State Archives of Mogilev Region meet with a leading researcher of the Saxon Memorials Documentation Center

The State Archives of Mogilev Region takes actives measures to ensure a wide use of archival documents by the native citizens and foreigners alike.

The Archives holds a collection of records created by the Administration of the State Security Committee for the Mogilev Region (UKGB), concerning the Soviet citizens who repatriated in 1945-1946 from Germany, Austria, Poland and other countries in Western Europe, as well as the registers of filtration files and captured cards for Soviet PoWs from 1942.

In 1994-2003, the UKGB records were especially actively used by the archivists in their work. In this period they issued about 50,000 archival certificates to the citizens.

Presently these records are also in high demand.

In the framework of international cooperation between the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Saxon Memorials Foundation (Germany), the State Archives of Mogilev Region and the Saxon Memorials Documentation Center signed an agreement on the creation of the electronic data bank of Soviet PoWs.

On 8 February 2011, a working meeting was held between the heads of the Archives and a leading researcher at the Documentation Center, Alexander Kharitonov, who handed to the Archives the necessary monetary funds, equipment and software.
