Archivists of Molodechno Region honored the memory of burned villages
On March 22, the leadership of the Zonal State Archive in Molodechno, as part of the district trade union activists, took part in a rally dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the tragedy in Khatyn. The event took place in the village of Osovets, which itself has become a symbol of the horror of Nazi crimes.
The Molodechno Region, like many other regions of Belarus, experienced the nightmare of the fascist occupation. 59 villages were burned on its territory, each of which preserves its own tragic history. The village of Osovets is one of them. On October 20, 1943, the Nazis surrounded it, gathered residents near the church and began interrogating them about the partisans. The people preferred to remain silent, demonstrating unbending fortitude. In response, the occupiers drove everyone into a barn and set it on fire. 28 civilians died in the fire, including women, children and the elderly…
– This day reminds us of the importance of preserving historical memory. Archivists of Molodechno, paying tribute to the victims of that tragedy, express gratitude to the generation of victors, who gave them the opportunity to work and create under a peaceful sky. On such days, society unites in the pursuit of peace and harmony, so as to never allow such events to happen again, noted the director of the ZGA in Molodechno, Inna Pudakevich.
The Molodechno land preserves the memory of the heroism and fortitude of its residents, and archivists continue their work, preserving history for future generations.
