The National Historical Archives of Belarus and the Belarusian Research Institute of Document Science and Archival Affairs remembered the participants and honored the victims of the Afghan War of 1979-1989.

On February 14, 2025, a meeting of the work collectives of the National Historical Archives of Belarus and the Belarusian Research Institute of Document Science and Archival Affairs was held in the conference hall of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers.

On February 15, 1989, the withdrawal of servicemen of the Limited Contingent of Soviet Troops from Afghanistan was completed. The Afghan War ended, in which the Soviet Army suffered the greatest losses since the Great Patriotic War. About 30 thousand Belarusians walked the roads of the Afghan War. 771 of them did not return.

In the Republic of Belarus, recognition of the feat of internationalist soldiers remains unchanged. In the center of Minsk, in the bend of the Svisloch River, a memorial was erected on the «Island of Tears» in memory of those who died in the performance of international duty in Afghanistan. Monuments and memorials to internationalist soldiers have been erected in many cities and towns of Belarus.

By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of March 26, 1998, No.157 «On state holidays, holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus», February 15 was established as the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers. This date is traditionally celebrated annually in our country.

The employees of the NIA of Belarus and BelNIIDAD were shown a video dedicated to the history of the Afghan conflict of 1979-1989.
