Information about the publication of the reference book «Armorial of the Belarusian gentry» (vol. 8, part 2)

The National Historical Archives of Belarus has published a scientific publication «Armorial of the Belarusian gentry» (vol. 8, part 2).

The second part of the eighth volume of the «Armorial of the Belarusian gentry» includes genealogies of the gentry, who mainly lived in the territory of the Minsk province and had surnames beginning with the letter «K» (from the surname «Kosobutsky» to the surname «Korzuny» inclusive). This book continues the multi-volume publication, which was started by employees of the National Historical Archives of Belarus in 2002 and since then has attracted persistent interest both in the scientific community and among researchers of their own family past.

The information contained in the «Armorial» allows us to trace changes in the social status, socio-political role, and property status of the gentry of the Belarusian lands during the 16th to early 20th centuries using the example of individual clans. This is a fairly long period of time during which the Belarusian lands were part of various states (the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Russian Empire). In addition, fundamental social changes took place at that time, which could not but affect the gentry class. In this vein, the publication of the «Armorial» receives a practical dimension not only for genealogical and related works, but also for a wide range of scientific research.

It is intended for a wide range of readers – professional scientists, as well as fans of genealogy and heraldry, local historians, and anyone interested in history.

The publication can be purchased at the Akademkniga bookstore (Minsk, Nezavisimosti Ave., 72, 8(017) 379 46 52).
