Employees of the State Archive of the Vitebsk Region took part in the event held at the House of Cinema – the nationwide premiere of an animated film produced by the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm» about memorial complexes created at the sites of tragic events and heroic battles of the Great Patriotic War in Belarus

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, on June 27, 2024, the republic hosted the premiere of an animated film produced by the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm» about memorial complexes created at the sites of the tragic events and heroic battles of the Great Patriotic War in Belarus.

The project consists of five parts, each of which is an independent story about memorable places and events associated with the Great Patriotic War: «Unfulfilled Dreams», «Buinichi Field», «Ola», «Breakthrough», «Operation Bagration».

The creators of the cartoon were present at the premiere in Vitebsk.

The event was attended by Tatyana Vladimirovna Buevich, Deputy Director of the State Archive of the Vitebsk Region. The children heard about the history of the Polotsk-Lepel partisan zone and about one of the largest punitive operations carried out in the spring of 1944 by the invaders against partisans and civilians. On the night of May 4-5, the partisans carried out the legendary breakthrough of the ring of fire, broke out of encirclement and brought out 15 thousand civilians. A memorial complex was created at the site of the breakthrough in 1974. It is located seven kilometers west of the urban village of Ushachi, between the villages of Paperino, Dvor-Plino and Novoe Selo.

At the end of the event, the results of a children’s drawing competition about the war were summed up.
