Action «Archives for School», holding information hours on the topic: «Chernobyl tragedy in archive documents» at the institution «Zonal State Archive in Orsha»

April 25-26, 2024, as part of the republican action «Archives to School» and events dedicated to the Year of Quality, with 8th grade students of state educational institutions «Secondary School No.7 of Orsha» and «Secondary School No.2 of Orsha» , the leading archivist of the department for the use of documents of the State Archive in Orsha, Yu.I.Gryadovka, held information hours on the topic: «The Chernobyl tragedy in archive documents», dedicated to the 38th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was the most destructive in the entire history of nuclear energy. According to the International Nuclear Event Scale, the Chernobyl disaster was assigned the seventh, highest level of damage caused. More than 200 thousand square kilometers were exposed to radioactive contamination, of which 70% were in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. As a result of the accident at the 4th power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, vast territories of five regions of Belarus, in which 27 cities and 2697 settlements were located, where more than 2 million people lived, were more or less exposed to radioactive contamination. The affected area was 45.52 thousand kilometers. More than 20% of the territory of our republic was classified as victims. 115 thousand people were forced to evacuate from the 30-kilometer Chernobyl exclusion zone.

Therefore, these days it is worth remembering the terrible tragedy of that time, the feat of people who showed courage and bravery in eliminating the consequences of the accident.

In addition, sightseeing tours of the archive were held for school students. The children got acquainted with the history of creation, the main activities of the archive, the composition of the stored funds, the specifics of working with archival documents and their storage, visited the archive storage, and also got acquainted with the poster exhibitions that are exhibited in the archive.
