A lesson in patriotic education was held with students of the educational institution «Slutsk State Agricultural Lyceum»

As part of the «Archives to School» campaign, in order to popularize the documents of the institution «Zonal State Archive in Slutsk» (hereinafter referred to as the State Archive), ensuring an inextricable historical connection and continuity of generations of the Belarusian people, employees of the State Archive conducted a lesson in patriotic education with students of the educational institution «Slutsk State Agricultural Lyceum».

On April 11, a memorable date is celebrated all over the world, which has become both a symbol of the greatest tragedy and sorrow, and a symbol of the perseverance and unparalleled courage of people of various nations and nationalities, who, by the will of fate, found themselves in the dungeons of fascist death camps during the Great Patriotic War – International Day of the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps. It was installed in memory of the international uprising of prisoners of the Buchenwald concentration camp, which occurred on April 11, 1945.

The freedom of our native land came at too high a price for our people.

In June 1941, a camp for Soviet prisoners of war was created in the city of Slutsk on the territory of the first military town. Since 1942, civilians began to be brought to the camp not only from other cities of Belarus, but also from the occupied regions of Russia. These were mostly women, children and old people…

Between June 1941 and March 1944, more than 28 thousand people were tortured, shot, died from wounds and epidemics in the Slutsk camp of Soviet prisoners of war and civilians. Before the Great Patriotic War, there were 21,947 inhabitants in Slutsk, and by Victory Day there were 6,829 people left.

The children were presented with acts stored in the archives about the atrocities of the Nazi invaders against military and civilian Soviet citizens. Acts on damage and losses caused by the Nazi invaders. An act confirming the existence of a concentration camp in the city of Slutsk and other documentary materials.
