ICA International Congress 2016 took place in Seoul, South Korea

The International Council on Archives Quadrennial Congress took place in Seoul, South Korea on 5-10 September 2016. The Congress brought together over 2000 archivists from 114 countries. The Belarusian delegation was represented by Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management in the Republic of Belarus, V. Adamushko, Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, V. Kourash, and Director of the National Historical Archives of the Republic of Belarus, D. Yatskevich.

The main topic of the Congress – Archives, Harmony and Friendship: Safeguarding of Cultural Traditions, Justice and Cooperation in the Global World.

The congress themes included: the changing nature of recordkeeping in the digital age; opportunities for cooperation within and outside the archival milieu; the role of archives in the support of truth and justice; and opportunities for harmony and friendship in archival endeavors.

Mr. V. Adamushko, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management in the Republic of Belarus presented a report on the topic “Archives heritage without barriers: interaction of state archives at various levels”.

Members of the Belarusian delegation took part in the session of the ICA General Assembly, plenary meetings, regional sessions and round tables.

During the congress members of the Belarusian delegation held working meetings with representatives of the state archival services from Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and other countries, discussed the perspectives of mutual cooperation and mapped out concrete projects for the nearest time.
