A Ceremonial Meeting at the National Historical Archives of Belarus to Commemorate International Archives Day

On June 9, 2026, a celebratory meeting dedicated to International Archives Day was held at the National Historical Archives of Belarus. Mikhail Glushakov, Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, congratulated his colleagues on their professional holiday.

Sergei Ryndin
, Deputy Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, delivered a lecture to the archive staff on the life and work of the outstanding Belarusian historian, archivist, local historian, public and political figure, and educator A.P.Sapunov.

2026 marks the 175th anniversary of his birth. He dedicated his life to studying the historical past of the Polotsk-Vitebsk region. He prepared and published dozens of books and brochures, scholarly articles, reviews, and publications. He was an active participant in the creation of the Vitebsk Church and Archaeological Museum and the Vitebsk Scientific Archival Commission, and initiated the creation of a monument to the 100th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812 in Vitebsk. A.P.Sapunov’s works are still used by local historians, archivists, teachers, and specialists in the study of Belarusian history.

An exhibition of documents has been prepared for the event. The National Historical Archives of Belarus holds a significant amount of documentary materials related to the life and work of A.P.Sapunov. These primarily include documents from the Vitebsk Boys’ Gymnasium, where Sapunov first studied and then worked as a teacher for many years. The archival collections of the Vitebsk Central Archive of Ancient Record Books and the Vitebsk Scientific Archival Commission contain documents related to A.P.Sapunov’s work in preserving ancient archival documents. The Vitebsk Provincial Government Archive Collection contains A.P.Sapunov’s personal file for the years 1901-1916, which contains service records for his service, as well as his original passport.
