On the participation of the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» in the filming of the newsreel documentary «Risen from the Ruins» of the Belarus3 TV channel
The main directorate of the Belarus 3 TV channel of the general production center is working on the creation of a series of newsreel documentary films «Risen from the Ruins» dedicated to the restoration of buildings of cultural sites in Belarus after the Great Patriotic War.
On August 14, 2025, the State Archives of the Gomel Region filmed a documentary film that will be dedicated to the history of the post-war restoration of the Rumyantsev and Paskevich Palace in Gomel.
Deputy Director of the Archive Zoya Aleksandrovich and Head of the Information, Publication and Use of Documents Department Elena Gorbik took part in the interview, provided information and materials on the post-war restoration of the palace.
To highlight the topic of post-war restoration of the Rumyantsev and Paskevich Palace in Gomel, documents from the collection of the Construction and Architecture Department of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee were presented. Among them: the Act on damage caused by the Nazi invaders and their accomplices to the Gomel Historical Museum, drawn up on December 15, 1944; Explanatory note to the act on the destruction of the former palace of Count Paskevich in Gomel by the Nazi invaders, which included the following sections: general description of the palace, «Description of the right wing», «Description of the central building of the palace», «Description of the left wing of the palace», «Description of the galleries and home church», «Calculation of the cost of the destroyed palace building», «Description of the exhibits of the Historical Museum»; Plan of the destroyed building of the former Palace of Prince Paskevich to the act of July 16, 1945; The report on the results of the survey of the architectural monument «Prince Paskevich’s Tomb» (18th-19th century) dated July 16, 1945; Letter from the head of the State Architectural and Construction Supervision Inspectorate Khanin to the head of the Gomel Regional Department of Architecture M. Tomakh on the revision of the roof restoration project in accordance with the external architecture of the former palace of Prince Paskevich dated July 9, 1949, etc.
The film crew was interested in the documents of the Gomel Regional Museum of Local History for 1944-1951. Inventory No.1 of Fund No.1871 includes orders, cost estimates and staffing schedules, reports, personnel documents, etc.; the section for 1946 contains the «Regulations and Work Plan for 1946-1947»; The sections for 1946 and 1948 contain «Inventories of exhibits». This set of documents allows us to study the issues of the evacuation of museum valuables during the initial period of the war in 1941 to the city of Stalingrad, the city of Uryupinsk in the Stalingrad region, their re-evacuation after the end of the war, the restoration of the Gomel Regional Museum of Local History in accordance with the decision of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee of March 28, 1944, No.136, staffing, financing, etc. For example, the report for 1946 contains information that on June 11, 1946, about 3,800 exhibits (paintings, sculptures, furniture, coins, orders, medals) of the regional museum of local history were returned from evacuation from the city of Uryupinsk in the Stalingrad region. The collection contains an inventory of exhibits as of December 30, 1946, which lists 5,949 items with their cost. The collection also contains an inventory of 200 items, compiled in 1947, for exhibits that were not evacuated during the war and were taken away by the Nazi occupiers.
The Belarus 3 TV channel’s main management plans to release the series of newsreel and documentary films «Rising from the Ruins» in the fall of 2025.
