Joint exhibition of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and the Gomel Regional Universal Library named after V.I.Lenin «Gomel People’s Militia Regiment: History, Feat, Memory»
On April 17, 2025, the National Library of Belarus hosted a presentation of the joint exhibition of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and the Gomel Regional Universal Library named after V.I.Lenin «Gomel People’s Militia Regiment: History, Feat, Memory».
In his welcoming speech, the director of the National Archives Andrei Konstantinovich Demyanyuk highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the archives and libraries, noting the symbolism of the exhibition on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and expressed hope for further fruitful work.
The Great Patriotic War is one of the most terrible pages in the history of mankind, which forced all the people of the Soviet Union to stand up for the defense of their homeland. Millions of people gave their lives fighting the invaders to ensure peace and security for future generations. One example of such heroism was the Gomel People’s Militia Regiment, which defended its hometown from the Nazi invaders for seven long days in an unequal struggle.
Information about these events has been preserved in the documents of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and was transferred to the staff of the Gomel Regional Universal Library named after V.I. Lenin as part of cooperation for the organization of an exhibition project.
Such events not only contribute to the development of patriotism and knowledge of the population about the past, but also help to attract people to the study of history through archives.
