Medical Worker’s Day
On June 15, 2023, a documentary exhibition dedicated to the Day of the Medical Worker of the Republic of Belarus opened at the Palace of the Republic.
On the third Sunday of June every year, all doctors in Belarus celebrate their professional holiday – Medical Worker’s Day or simply Medic’s Day. This is a professional holiday for those who have chosen the difficult path of helping people, relieving pain, giving hope for recovery, and sometimes saving lives. On the day of the holiday, many of the doctors will celebrate it in the performance of their duties, treat patients. Only in 1980 the holiday was approved at the highest level by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
Medical Worker’s Day is another reason to thank for mercy, compassion, for thousands of lives saved, and to say that the medical profession is an example of high service in the name and for the good of a person. A doctor is one of the most peaceful and creative professions, it is everyday work that brings goodness, care and light, allowing people to become healthy again. A doctor is the first to meet us at birth, and then throughout their lives, people trust medical workers with the most precious thing they have – their health and their loved ones, and this requires modern knowledge, high dedication and the best human qualities from doctors. Compassion, humanism and mercy – these principles are based on the professional activity of a doctor. “I will conduct my life and my art purely and without blemish” – the Hippocratic oath sounds, sealing the official document on medical education with the seal of conscience.
An accessible healthcare system in Belarus has always been an important component of the state social policy. Thanks to the state healthcare system and the training of medical personnel, Belarus remains a country with a high level of provision of the population with doctors. The day of the medical worker is a holiday not only for doctors and doctors, but also for paramedics, nurses, junior staff, because no modern device can replace a sensitive and attentive attitude towards the patient. The average age of a specialist doctor in Belarus is 42.4 years, 73.5% of them are women, and every second doctor is a general practitioner or surgeon.
