Holding an International Round Table
On June 14, 2023, the International Online Round Table “Key events and problems of the Great Patriotic War: on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Kursk and the beginning of the liberation of Belarus” was held. The forum was organized by: the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) and Polotsk State University named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk (Polotsk State University).
In his opening speech, Doctor of Pediatric Sciences, Director of the Humanitarian Institute of SPbPU Peter the Great N.V. Chicherina emphasized the relevance of scientific work to study the objective history of the Great Patriotic War and preserve the memory of it. In turn, the director of the NARB A.K. Demyanuk thanked the forum participants for the initiative and stressed the importance of international cooperation between archivists, scientists and educators from Belarus and Russia.
In total, 12 speakers were announced to participate (six from Belarus and six from Russia). The forum was moderated by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Social Sciences of SPbPU E.E. Krasnozhenova and head of the NARB publications department, Ph.D. S.V. Kulinok.
Head of the Department of History and Tourism of PolSU, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor A.I. Korsak presented a speech dedicated to the memorialization of the memory of the Holocaust in the Republic of Belarus. Head of the Department of History and Social Sciences, Minsk State Linguistic University, Candidate of History, Associate Professor S.E. Novikov made a report on the events on the fronts from the Battle of Kursk to Operation Bagration through the prism of new documents and research approaches.
About the implemented project “Without a statute of limitations. Belarus” said the leading researcher of the NARB Publications Department, Ph.D. V.D. Selemenev. Head of the same department, Ph.D. S.V. Kulinok made a report on “Punitive operations of the Nazis” Griffin “(“Capture”) and “Winter Forest” on the Belarusian-Russian border.”
The theme of the partisan movement was voiced in the speech of the leading researcher of the Center for Military History of Belarus of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Ph.D., Associate Professor A.A. Crooked. He spoke about the struggle of the partisans of the Gomel region with punitive actions before the Gomel-Rechitsa offensive operation of the Red Army.
The legal assessment of the genocidal policy of the occupiers was given by the director of the scientific and practical center for the problems of strengthening the rule of law and the rule of law of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Belarus, Ph.D. I.A. Frost.
Leading experts in military history from St. Petersburg and Novgorod spoke on behalf of the Russian colleagues.
The event was also attended by SPbPU students.
