The professional meeting of the heads of archival services and institutions of Russia and Belarus took place in Novgorod, Russia

The professional meeting of the heads of archival services and institutions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus took place on 3 October 2018 in Veliky Novgorod, Russia.

The topic of the meeting is “Digitization of archival records and long-term preservation of electronic records at the archives”.

The Governor of Novgorod Region A. Nikitin attended the event. The delegation of Russian archivists was headed by Director of the Federal Archival Agency A. Artizov. The Belarusian delegation was headed by Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry V. Kourash. The delegations included members of the Federal Archival Agency and the Department for Archives and Records Management, directors of the state archival institutions in Russia and Belarus.

The speakers at the meeting included Deputy Director of the Russian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation P. Kyung, Director of the Belarusian Research Center of Electronic Records V. Nosevich, Director of the State Archives of the Russian Federation L. Rogovaya, Director of the Technical Laboratory for Security Microfilming of Permanent Records E. Zvegintseva, Deputy Director of the Russian State Historical Archives N. Kolesnikova, Director of the State Archives of Vitebsk Region T. Svistunova.

The participants discussed general issues related to digitization of archival records of various types, acceptance and long-term preservation of electronic records, and perspectives of work in this area.

The next meeting of archivists of the two countries will take place in 2019 in Belarus.
