The Russian Federal Archival Agency and the Belarusian Department for Archives and Records Management held a joint board meeting in Novgorod, Russia

The Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation and the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus held a joint board meeting on 3 October 2018 in Veliky Novgorod, Russia.

The meeting was chaired by Head of the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation Mr. A. Artizov and Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus Mr. V. Kourash.

The participants discussed the issue of “Modern problems in the creation of security copies of unique and especially valuable documents of the Archival Holdings of the Russian Federation and the National Archival Holdings of the Republic of Belarus”.

The issue was reported by Chief of Records Preservation and State Inventory A. Kochetkova (Belarus) and Chief of Records Preservation and Inventory G. Khabibulina (Russia).

The meeting decision notes that the priority direction in further improvement of archival work in this area should be based on the use of modern electronic and micrographic technologies combining optical microfilming with the scanning of security copies.

In the second half of 2019 there is a plan to conduct a joint workshop on the creation of the fonds of security copies of unique and especially valuable documents and the fonds of use copies at the facilities of the Laboratory of Records Microfilming and Restoration at the Russian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation in Moscow.

The meeting also heard the report on the results of the Plan of Joint Actions of the Federal Archival Agency and the Department for Archives and Records Management in 2017-2019.
