Austrian historian Hubert Steiner presented with Honorary Diploma of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus
On 21 October 2016 the Embassy of Belarus in Austria presented Honorary Diploma of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus to Hubert Steiner, Austrian historian and expert from the State Archives of Austria, who significantly contributed to the study of archival documents on the death camp at Maly Trostenets.
In handing the diploma, The Belarusian ambassador to Austria Valery Voronetsky thanked Hubert Steiner for his active participation in the research of the Nazi crimes conducted in the area of present Belarus. The Belarusian side highly appreciate the contribution by H. Steiner in the commemoration of the victims of the extermination camp Maly Trostenets, among whom were 10, 000 Austrian Jews deported from Vienna during the Second World War.
In January 2016 the Belarusian Embassy in Austria organized Hubert Steiner’s visit to Belarus. On 18 January in Minsk H. Steiner handed to the Belarusian side the copies of WWII deportation orders of Austrian Jews killed by the Nazis at Trostenets. During the visit H. Steiner held talks with the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry, the National Archives and the authors of a collection of published documents and materials “Trostenets Death Camp”. The Austrian historian visited the Khatyn Memorial and was given a tour around the site of the future memorial complex at the place of the extermination camp Trostenets. He also spoke at a meeting with the representatives of the archival community in Belarus.
