On the participation of the «State Archive of the Gomel Region» institution in the «Institution of the Presidency as a Foundation for Achievements and Security» discussion forum

On October 9, 2026, a discussion forum titled «The Institution of the Presidency as a Foundation for Achievements and Security» was held at Secondary School No.1 in Gomel.

Distinguished experts speaking at the event included: Yuri Shestopalov, Director of the Regional Archive; Yuri Lebedev, Chairman of the Novobelitsky District Organization of the «Belarusian Union of Officers» NGO; Sergey Gorbachev, First Secretary of the Sovetsky District Committee (Gomel) of the Communist Party of Belarus (CPB); Anton Shevchenko, Secretary for Youth Policy of the Gomel City Committee of the CPB; and representatives of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. The primary participants were students in grades 9 through 11.

In his address, Yuri Shestopalov presented documentary evidence regarding the challenging conditions surrounding the formation of sovereign Belarus and explained how the institution of the presidency served as a vital path for development during the difficult 1990s.

The forum addressed topics such as the preservation of historical memory and the continuity between generations. Personnel from the Special Operations Forces provided the high school students with a practical explanation of how peace is maintained in our country. Students had the opportunity to ask questions directly.

The event concluded with a screening of the documentary film «30 Years of the Constitution of Belarus», produced by BGAKFFD.
