Film-based lecture at the Dzerzhinsk Territorial Center for Social Service of the Population, held as part of the national «Respect. Care. Responsibility» campaign for the Day of Older Persons and the Week of Parental Love
The Day of Older Persons is traditionally observed on October 1st — the first day of the second month of autumn. This date was chosen deliberately: old age is often considered a «golden time», and autumn is famously known as the «golden season».
International Day of Older Persons, observed since 1991, serves as a reminder that old age requires support, love, and care. Nothing lasts forever; youth eventually gives way to maturity and, subsequently, old age. Yet, the invaluable life experience of older people represents a significant contribution to the development of modern society.
Staff from the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents organized a celebratory event for visitors of the Active Longevity Support Department (day-stay program) at the Dzerzhinsk Territorial Center for Social Service of the Population. This event was held in honor of the Day of Older Persons and the associated national campaign, «Respect. Care. Responsibility».
M.D.Romanova, the archive’s Chief Curator of Holdings, presented photographic documents from the archive’s collections. These images offered a vivid and engaging look at the role of grandparents, including their influence on the lives of famous figures. A film from the «Countdown» series, titled «Pesnyary: The Belarusian Miracle», was also screened.
The archival materials resonated deeply with the audience; their active participation in the discussion made the event truly lively and engaging.
