CHRONICLE OF BELARUSIAN STATEHOOD: FILM LECTURE AT THE STATE ARCHIVE OF MINSK REGION

On July 6, 2026, the State Archive of Minsk Region hosted the presentation and screening of the new documentary «Independence Day: Chronicle of Belarusian Statehood», produced by the Belarusian State Film, Photo, and Sound Archive. The film was created under the supervision of O.L.Voinov, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, as part of the large-scale national project «Open Film Archive» and is timed to coincide with the country’s most important historical date—July 3.

The film is a large-scale narrative that reflects key milestones in the history of the Belarusian people throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries: the events of World War I, the development of statehood in the 1920s and 1930s, the reunification of Western Belarus with the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1939, the struggle against Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War and the long-awaited liberation of Minsk on July 3, 1944, the difficult years of post-war reconstruction, the large-scale industrial construction of the 1960s and 1970s, and the processes of establishing and strengthening the independence of the modern Republic of Belarus.

The filmmakers placed particular emphasis on the role of the First President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, in the formation, development, and strengthening of the institutions of sovereign Belarusian statehood.

The screening of «Independence Day: A Chronicle of Belarusian Statehood» evoked a lively response from the staff of the state archive. The film clearly demonstrates that the path to independence was thorny, but today Belarusians are confidently building their future in a peaceful, strong, and sovereign country.
