About the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Mogilev City Council of Workers’ Deputies

As part of the «Documentary Chronicle» section, the State Archives of the Mogilev Region presents for review a copy of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee’s decision of August 18, 1944, No.386, on the appointment of Major General Nikolai Filippovich Korolev (1906-1972) as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Mogilev City Council of Workers’ Deputies.

In accordance with this decision, Hero of the Soviet Union Korolev was confirmed in this position.

Nikolai Filippovich was born in the village of Aminovichi, Osipovich District. Before the war, he served as Chairman of the Osipovichi District Executive Committee and was a deputy of the first convocation of the Mogilev Regional Council of Workers’ Deputies.

During the Great Patriotic War, on assignment from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, he was left in the occupied territory to organize the partisan movement and the underground.

By Resolution No.1000 of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR dated September 16, 1943, he was awarded the military rank of Major General, along with other commanders of partisan formations in the Byelorussian SSR. On January 1, 1944, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme USSR, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, along with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

For his contribution to the post-war reconstruction of Mogilev, in 1970 he was awarded the title of «Honorary Citizen of the City of Mogilev».
