A film was produced for Independence Day as part of the Open Film Archive project
In anticipation of Independence Day celebrations, the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents produced the film «Independence Day: A Chronicle of Belarusian Statehood». The film is dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus and is produced under the general supervision of O.L.Voinov, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, and V.G.Mazetz, Scientific Advisor. The film was created as part of the Open Film Archive project.
This film reflects the heroic and tragic milestones in the history of the Belarusian people throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries: the events of World War I, the construction of a new life in the 1920s and 1930s, the reunification of Western Belarus with the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) into a single state, the struggle against Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War, the difficult years of post-war reconstruction, and the expansion of industrial construction in the 1960s and 1970s. The film prominently depicts events related to the process of establishing and strengthening the sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the place and role of the first President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, in this process.
Footage from the documentaries «Reunification Festival» (1945), «The 30th Anniversary of the BSSR» (1949), «Strokes for a Portrait» (1968), «Biography of My Republic. Film One» (1969), «The Right to Immortality» (1977), a 1992 issue of the film magazine «Belarus», the television program «Week» (2016), and materials from open sources such as the «All-Belarusian People’s Assembly» (SB TV) and the «Open Film Archive» (National State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of the Republic of Belarus) were used in the preparation of the film.
