On the participation of the State Archives of the Gomel Region in the international roundtable «We Need One Victory: The Contribution of the Peoples of the USSR to Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945» in Pskov, Russian Federation

On March 13, 2026, the State Archives of the Gomel Region, under a cooperation agreement, participated in the international roundtable via videoconference entitled «We Need One Victory: The Contribution of the Peoples of the USSR to Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945». The roundtable was held in Pskov, Russian Federation, at the Museum of the History of the Occupation and Genocide of the Population of the Pskov Region 1941-1945.

Senior researcher Maya Valentinovna Vashchenko presented a paper entitled «Partisan Gomel Region». The report focused on the heroic combat activities of the Budyonny Komsomol-Youth Sabotage and Partisan Detachment. It included information from archival documents of the Gomel Region State Archives about the heroic combat careers of the detachment’s fighters: Anatoly Petrovich Morozov, Pyotr Isakovich Levkov, Nikolai Karpovich Gorshunov, Natalya Petrovna Malysheva, and Eva Vasilyevna Moskalenko. It also included information from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, the State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region, and the Pankov family archive about Varvara Pankova-Vyrvich, who led the detachment.

In conclusion, Maya Valentinovna described the archive’s work in popularizing documents from the Great Patriotic War. In particular, about the meeting between the archive staff and invited students from the Gomel Cadet College with Varvara Petrovna Pankova-Vyrvich’s nephew, Igor Leonidovich Kuzmenok, which took place the day before at the regional archive.
