Every year on February 15, our country celebrates Remembrance Day of Internationalist Soldiers, established by Decree No.157 of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated March 26, 1998. On this day in 1989, the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was completed.
In Belarus, the patriotism and courage of internationalist soldiers is highly valued. The memorial complex «Island of Courage and Sorrow» in Minsk symbolizes the memory of the Afghan War.
On February 15, 2026, representatives of the public associations «BRSM» and «Belaya Rus» of the State Archives of the Minsk Region, on behalf of the entire staff of the institution, laid flowers at the foot of the memorial, paying tribute to all those who were destined to find themselves in the epicenter of military operations outside their homeland. We bow our heads to the courage and fortitude of our fellow countrymen, who faced the trials that befell them with honor and dignity.
We pay tribute to the soldiers and officers, to all those who remained true to their oath to the end and who sacrificed their lives to fulfill their duty to the Motherland!
