The State Archives of the Minsk Region held an event to commemorate Internationalist Warriors’ Remembrance Day

On February 11, 2026, in anticipation of Internationalist Warriors’ Remembrance Day, the State Archives of the Minsk Region held an event for students of the Minsk State Linguistic and Humanitarian College as part of the «Archives for School» campaign.

February 15, 1989, 37 years ago, Soviet troops withdrew from the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. From 1979 to 1989, Soviet servicemen participated in combat operations, providing assistance to the people and government of that country. Today, this day is dedicated to honoring the soldiers and officers who fulfilled their military duty outside their homeland.

The State Archives of the Minsk Region holds documents commemorating our compatriots who were destined to find themselves at the epicenter of military operations in Afghanistan.

Students were presented with documents about Nikolai Petrovich Chepik, a native of the Pukhovichi District of the Minsk Region and deputy commander of an engineer-sapper platoon. By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of April 28, 1980, Guards Senior Sergeant N.P. Chepik was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for courage and heroism displayed in providing international assistance to the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan.

The students received background information about the war in Afghanistan, learned about the life of our fellow countryman, Hero of the Soviet Union N.P.Chepik, and examined archival documents.
