Employees of the Gomel Regional Archives participated in the opening of the exhibition «What is this built of?»
On November 27, 2025, employees of the State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region and the State Archives of the Gomel Region participated in the opening of the exhibition «What is this built of?», which took place in the Rumyantsev and Paskevich Palace.
«What is this built of?» we often wonder, looking at this intricate building, adorned with delicate balconies and covered with intricate reliefs and carved patterns. What materials, hidden beneath the plaster, paint, patina of time, or restoration work, were originally used by its builders and decorators? Inquisitive minds will find answers at the exhibition «What is this built of?» The exhibition features a large collection of bricks from the museum’s collection, many of which bear maker’s marks. It also features ceramic tiles and roofing tiles, metal gratings, wooden elements, tools of architects, masons, and carpenters, as well as information about those whose talent and hands created many of the buildings.
The exhibition is complemented by documents from the collections of the Gomel Regional State Archives and models of architectural monuments, including those created by BelSUT architecture students. Vivid accents are provided by figurative installations made from parts and fragments of demolished buildings in the city, created with the participation of staff from the F.G.Shklyarov Vetka Museum of Old Believers and Belarusian Traditions.
