«Archives for School»: participation of the institution «State Archives of the Mogilev Region» in a film lecture
On January 14, 2025, a film lecture was held in the «Cosmos» cinema in Mogilev for students of grades 7-8 of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.6», State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.18», State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.20», State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.32», State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.34», State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.41», State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.44» of the city of Mogilev. During the event, the documentary «Ola: Time to Remember» was shown. The film tells about the tragedy of the village of Ola in the Gomel region, burned down by a Nazi punitive detachment on January 14, 1944. People were driven into houses, which were then set on fire. Those who tried to escape were shot with machine guns and automatic weapons, thrown into the fire alive. 1,758 civilians were shot and burned, including 100 men, 508 women, and 950 children.
In the foyer of the cinema, schoolchildren familiarized themselves with the banner exhibition «Again, let’s look closer to the past», dedicated to the defense, the period of occupation and the liberation of Mogilev from the Nazi invaders.
Before the screening, a speech was given by the leading archivist of the department of scientific use of documents and information of the institution «State Archives of the Mogilev Region» Alexey Shvyryov. He spoke about the villages of the Mogilev Region burned by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War and archival documents preserving the memory of the atrocities of the Nazi invaders against the civilian population.
Such events help preserve historical memory and popularize archival documents among schoolchildren. The children were able to deepen their knowledge of historical events of the past, the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War using the tragic events in the village of Ola as an example.
