On the holding of a career guidance event for senior students of Gomel schools at the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region»

On December 18, 2024, a career guidance lesson was organized at the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» for students of the final grades of secondary school No.67 in Gomel. The event was attended by senior students, some of whom plan to become students of the history departments of the country’s universities, five of whom are excellent students and strive to receive «gold medals».

A conscious choice of profession is one of the integral guidelines in the education of modern youth. The director of the archive Yuri Vasilyevich Shestopalov and the head of the department of accounting and preservation of documents Svetlana Anatolyevna Primakova told the students interesting information about the profession of an archivist, the features of archival work, the content of archival funds and the main areas of work of the archive departments. Archivist 1st category Valentina Anatolyevna Chekan introduced the students to how documents are processed, repaired and restored in the archive laboratory, because each document accepted into the archive storage is evidence of the events and people of our country. A sightseeing tour of the archive storage facilities was organized for the children, with a demonstration of unique documents stored in the archive funds.

Mastering the profession of an archivist is, first of all, patriotic education. Therefore, it is necessary to popularize this profession among the younger generation in order to preserve the historical memory of our people.

Director of the archive Yu.V.Shestopalov expressed his sincere hope that the students – future applicants, will become interested in archival work and the chosen profession will become their calling.
