Schoolchildren on their way to archival work: extracurricular activities in the Central Laboratory

In the state institution «Central Laboratory for the Preservation of Documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus», an important area of management work is the professional orientation of young people, training of future specialists to strengthen human resources.

On November 19, as part of the Archives – School campaign and events to identify students who love history – potential future employees of the archival industry, the laboratory was visited by high school students of secondary school No. 86 in Minsk, together with history teacher Anna Sergeevna Turku.
During the meeting, the director of the laboratory, V.L.Klyuyko, introduced the students to the structure of the archival industry, the history of the creation of the laboratory, its tasks, successes and traditions.

The students enthusiastically studied all stages of the technological process: from microbiological studies and disinfection of damaged archival documents to their restoration, binding, digitization and microfilming.

At the end of the meeting, V.L. Klyuyko donated books from the «Partisan Archive» series to the school library, told about the possibilities and advantages of targeted education at the BSU Faculty of History, and also invited students to participate in the Republican conference «Partisan Archive. I Children’s Guerrilla Readings», which will be held in December at the National Archives.
