BStAMLA as a guest of the radio channel «Culture»

On October 9, 2024, on the air of the radio channel «Culture» in the program «Dialogues about Culture» with the topic «Keeping cultural and social memory …» a meeting was held between the director of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter – BStAMLA) E.A.Makarenko and the head of the department of scientific description of personal documents O.F.Shatalova with the host of the radio channel, Honored Cultural Figure of Belarus N.Ya. Galperovich. The topics of conversation were – the celebration of the Archivist’s Day by the archival industry; BGAMLI is the only archive that has the status of a museum; the holding of the XXII Archival Readings «Support for the Preservation of Social Memory» by the archive-museum, highlighted by the third anniversary of the adoption of the law «On Archival Law».

N.Ya.Galperovich emphasized the importance of the work of the archival sector of Belarus for the preservation of the social and cultural memory of the people, paying special attention to the work of the BGAML in this area.

E.A.Makarenko spoke about the history of the creation of the archive-museum, the features of the acquisition and events held by the BGAML as part of the celebration of state holidays and memorable dates, including famous figures of literature and art of Belarus.

O.F.Shatalova covered in more detail the work of the department of scientific description of documents of personal origin, emphasized the importance and significance of the profession of «archivist». She thanked the founders of the BGAMLI for their help in completing the archive-museum with documents from personal archives.

The result of the meeting was the thesis that social and cultural memory is a powerful tool for patriotic and spiritual-value education of the younger generation and, in general, for the development of society. The work on its formation lies not only with cultural institutions, but also with the archival industry of Belarus.
