On the holding by employees of the institution «Zonal State Archives in Orsha», within the framework of the republican action «Archives for Schools», a thematic information hour «Chernobyl tragedy in archive documents»

On April 26, 2024, as part of the republican action «Archives to School» and events dedicated to the Year of Quality, with 3rd year students of the educational institution «Orsha College of Voronezh State University named after P.M. Masherov», the leading archivist of the department of document use of the institution «Zonal State Archive in Orsha» Yu.I. Gryadovka, a thematic information hour was held on the topic: «Chernobyl tragedy in archive documents», dedicated to the 38th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The Day of Remembrance for those killed in radiation accidents and disasters is celebrated annually on April 26 in memory of the events that occurred on this day in 1986 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The information hour «Chernobyl tragedy in archive documents» made it possible to remember, together with students, the tragic events of the Chernobyl accident, and to assess the scale of the tragedy that occurred. Indeed, from 1986 to 1989, according to various estimates, from 600 to 800 thousand people were involved in the cleanup work and elimination of the consequences of the accident. Among the liquidators there were representatives of all professions. Along with engineers, firefighters, builders, scientists, pilots, doctors, the liquidators included drivers, cooks, salesmen, etc. These people extinguished fires, decontaminated areas, washed houses and cars, laid asphalt on roads so that cars would raise less radioactive dust. More than half of all liquidators were military personnel.

The important thing is that today we must remember and know that one of the many lessons of Chernobyl is not to assume, but to know firmly how to act in such extreme situations. People must remember Chernobyl for the sake of the future, be aware of the dangers of radiation and do everything to ensure that such a disaster never happens again.

And consideration of this topic at the information hour helps to familiarize students with issues of global environmental problems, develop in them a sense of responsibility towards the environment, patriotism, develop a positive active life position, cultivate a sense of compassion, the ability to empathize with other people and appreciate their contribution to life of the country.
