Opening of the second exhibition from the series «Zara is called to borrow over Belarus»

On January 23, 2024, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, together with the National Library of Belarus, opened the second exhibition in the series «Dawn of the Challenge over Belarus», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the country’s liberation from the Nazi invaders.

The exhibition presents a chronicle of liberation from January to March 1944. The documentary series includes facts and information about participants in the Kalinkovichi-Mozyr (January 8 – February 8) and Rogachev-Zhlobin (February 21-26) offensive operations of the Belarusian Front. By March 1944, as a result of operations that continued with short interruptions since September 1943, 2 out of 10 regional, 36 out of 188 district centers and approximately 1/5 of the territory of Belarus were liberated. The third part of the exhibition series will provide information about the large-scale Belarusian offensive operation «Bagration».

As part of the event, journalist of the Gomel Vedomosti newspaper D.Chernyavsky presented unique publications dedicated to the memory and history of the everyday life of veterans – hero-liberators of Belarus. Among them is the documentary and artistic work «The Battle Roads of Grigory Ilyin, or 300 Days to the West», which panoramicly shows the chronicle of liberation from September 23, 1943 to July 28, 1944, and the documentary photo book «Through the Mouths of Front-Win Soldiers». The National Archives presented documents from the archival fund «Belarusian Headquarters of the Partisan Movement»: diagrams of connection and interaction of partisan detachments with units of the Red Army for 1944, orders of the partisan detachment «Victory» of the partisan brigade «Plamya» of the Minsk region, reports of the Sovinformburo on the combat operations of the partisans for March – July 1944 and other documents.

The event was attended by historians, journalists, writers, librarians, museum workers – everyone who is interested in history and preserves the memory of the exploits and actions of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
