Visit of the Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management O.L. Voinov to the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation

On December 7–8, 2023, the director of the Department of Archives and Records Management O.L.Voinov is visiting the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation.

The director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus A.K.Demyanuk will take part in the trip.

On December 7, 2023, negotiations were held between the Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management O.L.Voinov and the Head of the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation A.N.Artizov. Deputy Head of the Federal Archive Agency A.V.Yurasov and Director of the Russian State Military Archive V.P.Tarasov took part in the negotiations.

During the negotiations the following issues were raised:

1. On the implementation in 2024 of the activities included in the joint action plan of the Federal Archival Agency and the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus for 2023-2025.

2. On the implementation of publishing projects on the topic of the Great Patriotic War in the framework of events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders: «Nazi punitive operations on the Belarusian-Russian borderland 1942-1944», «Winter magic: Nazi punitive operation on the Belarusian -Russian-Latvian borderland February-March 1943» and «Surazh Gate: «Great Land» and the partisan movement in the BSSR».

3. On the implementation of a project related to the issue of the loss of the cultural heritage of Belarus and Russia, including the preparation of a collection (collections) of documents on the loss of the cultural heritage of Belarus and Russia during the Great Patriotic War, the organization of banner exhibitions, and a joint International conference on this topic.

4. On the identification of new and little-known documents in archival institutions of the Russian Federation related to events on the territory of Belarus during the Second World War.

5. On the provision of film documents about the events of the Great Patriotic War on the territory of Belarus.

On December 8, 2023, the opening of the historical and documentary exhibition «The Great Patriotic War. November 19, 1942 – November 7, 1944».

The exhibition was organized by the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation and the Russian Historical Society.

Project coordinator – Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History.

Exhibitors include the federal archives of Russia, the Foreign Policy Archive of the Russian Federation, the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Central Archive of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Archive of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, the Main Information and Analytical Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the State Historical Museum, State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, Victory Museum, Russian National Museum of Music, Research Institute (Military History) of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Belarusian side in the project is represented by the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents.

At the opening of the exhibition, O.L. Voinov, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management, delivered a welcoming speech.

The head of the archival industry of Belarus emphasized that today we are witnessing wars with historical memory that are unprecedented in scale and cynicism. These are attempts by some Western politicians to rewrite the history of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, to devalue the feat of Soviet soldiers and partisans who bore the brunt of the war years on their shoulders and defeated Nazism.

He noted that in our countries the heroes of the Great Patriotic War are treated with great respect and respect. In Belarus, the study of its history has never stopped. This work is carried out without «rewriting» the historical truth.

At the same time, a special mission to preserve and protect historical Memory and objective Truth lies with archivists. An archival document is an impartial and most convincing argument in any scientific controversy and political debate.

And in this regard, the director of the Department of Archives and Records Management noted the close and fruitful cooperation between archival services and archival institutions of Belarus and Russia. As a result of joint work, more than 15 collections of documents on various aspects of the history of 1941-1945 were published.

In publishing work, Belarusian and Russian archivists were united by the project «Without a Statute of Limitations».

Historical and documentary exhibition «The Great Patriotic War. November 19, 1942 – November 7, 1944». became an important step in the popularization of history, its heroic and at the same time tragic pages.

O.L. Voinov noted that the exhibition launches such important events in the Republic of Belarus as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders (2024) and the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (2025).

After the official part, the ceremony participants visited the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts.
