The participants of the event were addressed by the Deputy Chairman of the State Forensic Examination Committee of the Republic of Belarus A.M.Lashin and the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Belarus S.N.Khomenko.

«Today’s event is dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus and, of course, has a festive format. This day is a symbol of the centuries-old history of the Belarusian people, who have always fought for freedom and independence. And the historical facts captured in authentic documents and on film and photographic films do not leave any chance for those who are trying to rewrite our history today to consign to oblivion the feat of the generation of the Great Patriotic War,» the Minister of Justice emphasized.

During the event, a film lecture was held on the topic «Liberation and revival of the Belarusian capital», prepared by the Ministry of Justice within the framework of the «Open Film Archive» project for the State Holiday and in the Year of Peace and Creation.

Before the participants of the event with lectures «On the liberation of the city of Minsk from the Nazi invaders» and «Architectural revival of the Belarusian capital» were presented by the head of the publications department of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, Candidate of Historical Sciences S.V.Kulinok and the head of the information and use of documents department of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation, Candidate of Historical Sciences L.I.Moseychuk. Both researchers together have more than 250 scientific publications on the history of Belarus.

The lecture by S.V.Kulinok covered issues related to the establishment of the so-called «new order» by the Nazis, including the organization of the camps «Drozdy», «Trostenets», the Jewish ghetto in Minsk and other places of forced detention of citizens. Particularly in the lecture, issues related to resistance to the occupation regime were emphasized: the partisan and underground movement. Various, often little-known facts of the liberation of Minsk during the strategic operation «Bagration», as well as the state of the capital of Belarus in the first days of the week after the expulsion of the Nazis were noted.

In a lecture by L.I.Moseychuk, it was noted that after the liberation in the city of Minsk, no more than 20% of the pre-war buildings remained. The total damage caused to the city amounted to about 6 billion rubles. The active participation of Minsk residents in the restoration of the city was emphasized. In mid-1946, the General Plan of Minsk was approved. The lecture noted a significant role in the restoration of Minsk of such prominent architects as A.V. Shchusev, N.E. Trakhtenberg, I.G. Langbard, V.A. Korol and others.

At the end of the event, the director of the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents A.N.Gonchar presented a video dedicated to the liberation of Belarus, as well as a documentary from the series «Biography of my country», dedicated to the liberation of Minsk and post-war reconstruction.
