Event dedicated to the memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General Vasily Zakharovich Korzh

On June 30, 2023, an event dedicated to the memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General Vasily Zakharovich Korzh was held at the National Archives. It was attended by the Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus O.L.Voinov, employees of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus, heads of archival institutions, relative of V.Z.Korzha G.G.Ignashevich, writer N.I.Smirnov, employees of the National Archives.

The guests were presented with two documentary exhibitions in showcases dedicated to the history of the partisan movement and the activities of VZ Korzh. Also, the audience was shown a video clip with footage from archival newsreels dedicated to V.Z. Korzh, prepared by the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents.

O.L. Voinov in his speech briefly highlighted the main milestones in the deployment of the partisan movement on the territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, noted the invaluable contribution of V.Z. Korzh to the development of this process, stressed the importance of holding such events.

Writer N.I. Smirnov, during the meeting, presented to those present his books dedicated to the activities of V.Z. Korzh and other prominent figures of the underground and partisan movement on the territory of Belarus, and also donated some of them to the National Archives.

G.G. Ignashevich, a relative of V.Z. Korzh, spoke about how the memory of a famous fellow countryman is honored in his homeland and expressed his readiness to transfer copies of his materials for storage to the National Archives.

Within the framework of the event, a solemn transfer of copies of archival documents about V.Z.Korzha to the historical and demonstration center of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus took place. At the end of the meeting, the guests were given a tour of the funds of the National Archives.
