About perpetuating the memory of K.Simonov in Mogilev

Konstantin Mikhailovich Simonov (1915-1979) – Russian Soviet prose writer, poet, playwright, screenwriter, public figure, journalist and war correspondent.

In the early days of the war, he was drafted into the Red Army and, as a correspondent for Izvestia, was seconded to the army newspaper of the 3rd Army, Battle Banner, as a war correspondent.

A huge influence on K.Simonov as a writer was his participation in the defense of the city of Mogilev in July 1941. And the novel «The Living and the Dead» written by him immortalized the battle on the Buinichsky field in Russian literature.

On the Buinichsky field, where the ashes of Konstantin Mikhailovich were secretly scattered, a memorial stone was erected in his honor.

Shortly after his death, the Mogilev City Executive Committee, having considered the petition of the veterans of the 388th rifle Sandomierz Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky Regiment, adopted a decision dated April 16, 1980 No. 3-55 «On renaming part of Gagarin Street in the area from Gagarin Square to Schmidt Avenue to K.Simonov Street».
