On April 26, the Holy Assumption Cathedral in Vitebsk hosted an event dedicated to the 37th anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Representatives of the regional and city executive committees, administrations of Vitebsk, participants in the aftermath of the accident, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, students of the Vitebsk Cadet School and the profile class of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of secondary school No.44 in Vitebsk, and members of the public gathered in the temple.
The head of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus Meleshkin S.N. addressed the audience, who noted the courage of the liquidators of the accident, expressed condolences to the families who lost their relatives from the consequences of the accident, and stressed that it was Belarus that suffered the most from radioactive contamination.
The participants honored the memory of the liquidators of the accident and all those who died from its consequences with a minute of silence.
The event ended with a litany about the deceased liquidators of the accident and about all those who died from the consequences of the accident.
Those present lit candles in memory of the victims of the tragedy.
The event was attended by employees of the State Archives of the Vitebsk region.
