On the opening of the book and documentary exhibition «The Basic Law of the State» at the National Library of Belarus
On March 15, 2023, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, together with the National Library of Belarus, opened a book and documentary exhibition «The Basic Law of the State», dedicated to the Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus.
Belarus is a country with a long legal history. The Statute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of 1588 should rightly be referred to the outstanding monuments of the legal, literary and linguistic culture of Belarusians, and the first Constitution that was in force on our lands was adopted in 1791. She is only 4 years younger than the US Constitution and the first in Europe.
The Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus is a significant event in the modern history of the country. The constitution is a sign of a developed, free society of a European state. The current fundamental law determined the principles of the sovereignty of our country, became the core of the entire legal system and a solid foundation for building a social state. Compliance with the norms laid down in the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus guarantees stability and well-being in society, ensuring decent living conditions for citizens.
The exhibition presents about 30 documents. Among the exhibits are publications dedicated to the formation of the Belarusian national statehood, publications of the Basic Law of our country from the 18th century to the present day, publications on the constitutional law of Belarus.
The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus for the first time presented unique documents at the exhibition: the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated March 15, 1994 «On the procedure for the entry into force of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus», minutes of the meeting of the working group of the Constitutional Commission of the Supreme Council of the BSSR and other official documents. Separate sections of the exhibition are devoted to the history of our country and the modern life of Belarus.
