Discussion of the law «On the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly» in the National Archives
On February 27, the National Archives hosted a discussion of the law «On the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly» (VNS). A.V. Shumak, Deputy Head of the Department of Institutional and International Law of the National Center for Legislation and Legal Research of the Republic of Belarus, was invited to a meeting with the staff of the archive.
Anastasia Valentinovna spoke about the meetings of the Supreme People’s Council in the previous period: for the first time the Supreme People’s Council met in Belarus in 1996, on the eve of the referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution. In total, six such meetings have already taken place: in 1996, 2001, 2006, 2010, 2016 and, the last one at the moment, in 2021. In her speech, the lecturer also spoke about the competence of the SPC as the highest representative body of the people’s power of the Republic of Belarus, about the composition of the delegates, the timing of the election of the first convocation of the SPC and the procedure for its formation.
Deputy Director of the Archive E.V. Kushnova expressed her gratitude to A.V. Shumak and the team for participating in the discussion and noted the need to hold events of this format in the future.
At the end of the meeting, an excursion was organized for A.V. Shumak to get acquainted with the work of the archives, the reading room, and the structural divisions of the archive.
