Excursion for students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No. 16 of Borisov named after I.V. Borisyuk»

On November 30, 2022, employees of the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents» organized an excursion for students of grades 9-11 of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No. 16 of Borisov named after I.V. Borisyuk» for the Year of Historical Memory and as part of the «Archives for School» campaign .

During the tour, the guests were given the opportunity to get acquainted with the composition of the documents stored in the funds, as well as with the features of the search using the scientific reference apparatus. In addition, the specifics of technological processes aimed at preserving the unique audiovisual heritage were covered in detail: restoration and preventive measures, digitization of all types of documents, features of technical control over the condition of document carriers. Also, the focus of attention was focused on the special storage conditions in storage facilities.

The collection of photographs of military journalist V.I. Arkashev aroused great interest among the tourists. These photographs are a unique and invaluable evidence of the feat of a Soviet soldier during the Great Patriotic War. The collection of photographs by E. Tomashevskaya – Radzivil and A. M. Bogomolov made no less impression on the visitors of the archive.

The demonstration of a documentary film in the cinema hall of the archive «Retribution» (1962) about an open trial in the city of Baranovichi in 1946 against collaborators made an indelible impression on the audience.

Schoolchildren and teachers noted the uniqueness of the archive, many features of its work, and, accordingly, the question arose about the professions needed in this institution. Historians, archivists, designers, restorers, sound engineers, video engineers – and this is not a complete list of specialties that are in demand in the archive. During the excursion, the schoolchildren had a unique opportunity to see the work of the archive from the inside, touch the technological processes and imagine themselves in the place of an employee.

The work of the workers of the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents on the preservation of audiovisual documentary heritage made an indelible impression on the participants of the excursion. The schoolchildren promised to tell their parents and friends about what they saw, and some were interested in the archivist profession itself.
