A round table at the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region

On March 16, 2022, the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region held a round table “Preservation of historical truth and memory of the heroic deed of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War” with students of the Gomel State Machine-Building College.

The head of the preservation department Alla Sidorko conducted a tour around the archival repository and told about the history of the Archives (on March 15 this year the institution celebrated its 82nd anniversary), the content of the documents and the features of their storage.

With a purpose of the patriotic education of the younger generation and perpetuating the memory of the victims of the war, in the reading room of the Archives the students were shown a video film from the collections of the Belarusian State Archives of Film and Photo Documents about the liberation of the Gomel region.

During the round table, the archivists told the students about the amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the history of the Constitution, its structure, the main sections and articles. Special attention was drawn to Article 15 regarding the preservation by the state of the historical truth and memory of the heroic feat of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. A thematic quiz was held for the students on the knowledge of the fundamental rights and duties of citizens of the Republic of Belarus.
The event concluded with an exhibition of archival documents and photographs “They defended Gomel during the first months of the Great Patriotic War” prepared on the basis of archival documents and photographs.
