The National Historical Archives of Belarus together with the Museum of King John III Palace in Wilanów (Warsaw, Poland) have published the second volume of the Monumenta Sobesciana series titled “Letters of Maria Casimira from the Sobieski Archive in Olawa, vol. 2: Letters to her sons for 1697-1704”.
The book contains 94 private letters of Queen Maria Casimira Sobieska, which are preserved at the National Historical Archives of Belarus. The letters to her sons, written mostly from Rome, shed light on the private life of the royal family and their attempts to find place in the political life of Europe in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, after the loss of the throne of the Rzeczpospolita.
The processing and translation of documents from French and their scientific editing was done by Prof. Robert Zaborovsky and Dr. Anna Charnetskaya.
The publication appeared as a result of joint work between the Archives and the Museum as part of the implementation of the signed Agreement on cooperation in the field of scientific use of the documentary heritage of the Sobieski family.
