History Through Documents: An Event at the Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region Dedicated to the October Revolution
On November 6, 2026, the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region hosted an event for students from the Gomel State College of Transport and Transport Communications, timed to coincide with the Day of the October Revolution.
Archive staff explained the historical background and key stages of the revolutionary events of 1917, including the formation of the Provisional Government, the emergence of «dual power», and the Bolsheviks’ rise to power.
The students showed particular interest in the archival documents on display, as well as in the memoirs of veterans of the Great October Socialist Revolution regarding Vladimir Ilyich Lenin — materials preserved within the archive’s collection. These records offered the students a direct look at primary evidence from the era, revealing how those who lived through these events—both participants and their contemporaries—recalled Lenin.
The event also featured a screening of a documentary film about the 65th-anniversary celebrations of the Great October Socialist Revolution in Gomel, produced by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photograph, and Sound Documents. This archival newsreel provided the students with a glimpse into how the date was commemorated in the city.
The event concluded with a tour of current exhibitions featuring archival documents and a guided visit to the archive’s storage facilities.
