As part of the «Archives to Schools» initiative, the State Archive of the Minsk Region hosted a guided tour for 5th-grade students from Secondary School No.134 of Minsk (named after T. S. Marinenko)
On November 3, a guided tour was held for 5th-grade students from Secondary School No.134 in Minsk (named after T.S.Marinenko). The event was timed to coincide with the October Revolution Day.
The program was designed to be engaging, turning the exploration of historical heritage into an exciting adventure.
The young guests were given a tour of the archive, including a visit to the storage facility, where staff explained how documents are preserved and what the work of an archivist entails.
To reinforce what they had learned, the students took part in an engaging quest game called «In Search of Treasure». Navigating through the labyrinth of archival collections, the children searched for hidden letters, which they then pieced together to reveal a secret word.
The event continued in the reading room, where the students attended a thematic lesson titled «A Red-Letter Day on the Calendar», focusing on the history and traditions surrounding the November 7th holiday. The 5th-graders also viewed an exhibition, «A Documentary Chronicle of Growing Up», which featured unique archival materials reflecting the daily lives, studies, and routines of children from the past.
To conclude the visit, the students watched a modern documentary film, «Archive.Life», which vividly illustrates the importance of archival work.
