The year 2026 marks a significant milestone in the world of cinema: the 90th anniversary of the birth of Viktor Timofeyevich Turov, an eminent Belarusian film director, Honored Worker of the Arts of the Byelorussian SSR, People’s Artist of the Byelorussian SSR, People’s Artist of the USSR, and laureate of the USSR State Prize.
His body of work represents a major landmark in the history of both Belarusian and Soviet cinema, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of audiences and the cultural memory of the nation. V.T.Turov was more than just a director; he was an artist with a unique ability to perceive and convey the soul of a people—their experiences, struggles, and hopes—onto the screen.
Viktor Turov’s films explore profound social and cultural themes, such as the human condition, love for one’s homeland, and the continuity between generations. His works reflect the realities of the people, ensuring they remain relevant and continue to resonate with viewers today. Celebrated for their artistic merit and deep emotional resonance, his films have garnered widespread acclaim.
The primary objective of the exhibition «Viktor Turov – Master of Belarusian Cinema» is to offer visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the unique cinematic legacy created by this renowned Belarusian director. The exhibition features not only materials related to iconic films—such as «Through the Cemetery» (1964), «I Come from Childhood» (1966), and «People in the Swamp» (1982) — but also photographs and costumes worn by the characters in these movies.
The exhibition is built upon unique archival documents from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, artifacts from the collections of the National History Museum of the Republic of Belarus, and costumes provided by the national film studio «Belarusfilm».
The exhibition «Viktor Turov: A Master of Belarusian Cinema» serves as a tribute to a film director whose legacy continues to inspire new generations of filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts alike.
