Deputy Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus Sergei Ryndin spoke about archival documents on the history of Independence Avenue in Minsk

On August 24, 2026, Deputy Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus Sergei Ryndin gave an interview to the First Information Channel, in which he presented archival documents on the history of Independence Avenue in Minsk.

Minsk’s main thoroughfare traces its history back to the spring of 1801, when the construction of a new street, Zakharyevskaya Street, began. It is currently the main thoroughfare of Minsk, crossing the city from the center to the northeast. The avenue is approximately 15 km long.

Among the archival documents presented are general plans of Minsk from the 19th and early 20th centuries, design plans for buildings located on Zakharyevskaya Street, construction estimates and contracts, petitions to open establishments, and materials on the history of the Minsk city power plant and the Minsk horse-drawn railway.

The presentation of these documents once again highlights the significant contribution of the National Archives of Belarus to preserving the historical and cultural heritage of Minsk and opens up new perspectives for studying the history of our capital’s main thoroughfare.
