About Participating in the Book Launch

Staff from the Zonal State Archives in Polotsk participated in the launch of the book «Preserving the Memory of Generations».

On July 7, the Pushkin Children’s Library in Novopolotsk hosted a presentation of the landmark publication «Preserving the Memory of Generations» for city institutions and organizations. Published in 2026, the book is the result of years of research by Belarusian and Russian researchers, local historians, and local historians. It focuses on the bloody battles of 1941, the battles for Vitebsk in the fall and winter of 1943–1944, the battles on the banks of the Luchesy River, and other tragic events of the Great Patriotic War.

Larisa Naumovna Brueva, one of the book’s authors, spoke about the painstaking and careful collection of eyewitness accounts, combat diary excerpts, military maps, and unique photographs, bringing the names of heroes back from oblivion. The story of the search team’s work to recover Soviet soldiers and military equipment in the Vitebsk region, the holding of international memorial watches, and much more was very moving.

The State Archives in Polotsk expresses its gratitude to L.N.Brueva for providing a copy of the book for use by archive staff and visitors.
