An Open Day was held at the Zhlobin State Archives

As part of International Archives Week, International Archives Day, and the national «Archives for Schools» campaign, an Open Day was held at the Zhlobin Zonal State Archives on June 9, 2026. Students from the city’s general secondary and vocational schools attended the event.

The event aimed to promote archival science and familiarize the younger generation with the state archives’ main work, the collections and rules for permanent document storage, and the digitization and restoration of paper primary sources.

During a tour of the state archives, the students visited the institution’s «holy of holies»—the archival storage facility. Archivist Irina Eliseeva discussed the specifics of document preservation, as well as the temperature, humidity, and light conditions necessary for the long-term preservation of paper media. Students were shown archival collections and authentic files reflecting the history of the Zhlobin region.

A key part of the program was a patriotic film lecture. Students were shown the documentary «Hero Fortress», produced by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents (BSACFPD) and dedicated to the heroism of the defenders of the Fatherland during the Great Patriotic War.

The event clearly demonstrated that the Zhlobin archive is not just a closed repository, but a vibrant information and educational center.
