On the holding of a celebratory meeting dedicated to International Archives Day at the State Archives of the Gomel Region
On June 9, 2026, Yuri Shestopalov, Director of the State Archives of the Gomel Region, and Svetlana Primakova, Chair of the archive’s primary trade union organization, congratulated the staff on International Archives Day.
Yuri Shestopalov’s speech to the staff focused on the history of the international holiday. International Archives Day was established by the International Council on Archives in 2007 at a conference in Quebec. The date of June 9 was chosen deliberately: it was on this day in 1948 that the International Council on Archives itself was established by UNESCO. This organization unites national archival services and professional associations and promotes the international exchange of experience. Archival documents are primary sources and the factual basis for understanding the development of world history. It is thanks to the work of archivists that a country’s historical documentary heritage is preserved and preserved, enabling future generations to learn more about their country’s history. Thanks to their professionalism, attention to detail, and passion for their work, the archives are accessible and understandable to anyone interested in the history of the region.
Yuri Shestopalov and Svetlana Primakova thanked the archivists for their dedicated work and wished them health, success, prosperity, optimism, and new professional achievements. At the ceremony, certificates were presented to distinguished archival staff members – Olga Krivenkova and Tamara Makarevich – and well-deserved commendations were given to Mikhail Sachavo, Alesya Yemelyanova, Victoria Rudenko, and Ekaterina Kacheva.
