«A Century in the History of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Belarus»: a virtual exhibition of archival documents from the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno
The history of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service is a journey of dedication, scientific research, and daily, sometimes unnoticed, yet colossal, work. Its origins date back to the first post-revolutionary years, when the country faced socio-economic hardships and outbreaks of dangerous infections. The materials of the First Congress of Sanitary Workers of the BSSR, held in February 1926, became the conceptual basis for the creation of a unified state sanitary surveillance system.
The virtual exhibition, created by the staff of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno, is based on documents from sanitary and epidemiological stations in the archive’s service areas, chronicling the service’s activities since the first post-war years.
100 years is more than just a date on the calendar. This centuries-old experience, preserved in yellowed folders and modern digital archives, allows everyone to see how small sanitary stations grew into a powerful structure protecting the health of the population.
